Inspired by American glass artist Dale Chihuly and British wood sculptor Joey Richardson, Chihuly is famous for creating large-scale artworks with colorful and complex shapes or curvy lines. Richardson is renowned for her delicate and richly hued wood forms and having most of her works connected to nature such as wood, fauna and flora.
I utilized cholla wood as a found object to present the concept of re-evaluating works. Cholla wood is the skeleton of a cholla plant that lingers after it dies and becomes a new home for shrimps which love to hide around cholla woods and seaweeds. I created wood textures through different materials and techniques to depict the marine life scenery with a forested feel.
